• Tue 1 - Give thanks for the Royal School of Church Music and its director, Hugh Morris.
• Wed 2 - Pray for our services this month, for Dianna leading and preaching, for Martin supporting her through it all.
• Thu 3 - Pray for teachers and pupils returning to school this month and for the new intake.
• Fri 4 - Give thanks for all who have a fresh start this autumn, be it adults or children.
• Sat 5 - Pray for our services tomorrow, and breakfast being served between the services. Give thanks for those involved in preparing, serving and clearing up afterwards.
• SUN 6 14th after Trinity - Lord God, the source of truth and love, keep us faithful to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, united in prayer and the breaking of bread, and one in joy and simplicity of heart.
• Mon 7 - Pray this week for all who live in RAMILLIES PARK. Remember all at Our Lady Help of Christians.
• Tue 8 - Pray for our politicians, and especially our new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham.
• Wed 9 - Give thanks for all who are in the army around here, no longer the place it used to be.
• Thu 10 - Give thanks for new people who come to St. Mark's, may they stay and grow to be part of the church family.
• Fri 11 - Pray for all affected by the war in Ukraine also on the Russian side. A sad waste of young lives and with drones having made an entrance, anybody may get caught up.
• Sat 12 - Pray for those involved in the flower festival at Winchester Cathedral starting next Tuesday.
• SUN 13 15th after Trinity - Keep us, Lord, steadfast in faith and active in your service always and prayerful.
• Mon 14 - This week we pray for all who live in DUKES PARK. Pray also for all who make use of the church being open on Friday mornings.
• Tue 15 - Remember Deanne and her daughter and pray that God be with them.
• Wed 16 - Pray for our PCC members that they may feel valued in what they do for all of us.
• Thu 17 - May our daily lives be led so close to God that we do not feel far from him at any time.
• Fri 18 - Pray for everyone after these months of drought, those who love their gardens and find them impossibly forlorn.
• Sat 19 - Pray for evensong at the cathedral tomorrow as the new canon missioner is installed.
• Sun 20 16th after Trinity - Pray for North Farnborough Food Bank and for all they help, but also for those who donate and pray.
• Mon 21 - Pray for those who live in ALEXANDRA ROAD. Pray for all at the Methodist church.
• Tue 22 - Pray for businesses down the lower end of Alexandra Road, may they thrive.
• Wed 23 - Pray for all who have moved into this part of Farnborough, may they settle quickly and get to know the people around where they live.
• Thu 24 - Pray for all retired people that they may find worthwhile things to do so they still feel valued and useful.
• Fri 25 - Macmillan Coffee Morning is happening this morning and we pray for a good morning for all dropping in and finding out about Macmillan nurses and their work with people with cancer and their families.
• Sat 26 - Quiz Night and Harvest Supper at 5.30 which will be great fun with Dianna and Martin in charge of questions.
• SUN 27 17th after Trinity - Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, and make us continually to be given to all good works.
• Mon 28 - This week we pray for those who live in READING ROAD. Pray for all at the Baptist Church.
• Tue 29 - Give thanks for the things you enjoy doing in your spare time. May it also benefit the people around you.
• Wed 30 - Give thanks for all the benefits we have in the society we live in.

As we gather week by week at church, help us, Lord, to grow in our Christian lives and in knowledge of what the Bible teaches us.

• Sat 1 - Give thanks for holidays and times that take us out of 'the daily round'.
• SUN 2 9th after Trinity - Give us your peace when we gather for worship.
• Mon 3 - Pray this week for all who live in NETLEY STREET. Pray for all at Our Lady Help of Christians.
• Tue 4 - Give thanks for Dianna and Martin, now very much part of St. Mark's.
• Wed 5 - Pray that we may all be kept safe through this holiday month, children as well as adults.
• Thu 6 Transfiguration - Give us strength to hear Jesus' voice and bear our cross, that in the world to come we may see him as he is, so that all the world may know his power to change and save.
• Fri 7 - Pray for those who are unwell at this time, for healing and return of health and strength.
• Sat 8 - Pray for our churchwardens, Hilary and Deglan, as they shoulder the responsibility of running our church with much help, of course, from those on the PCC.
• SUN 9 10th after Trinity - Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts. Ps.85. 8
• Mon 10 - This week we pray for all who live in WINCHESTER STREET. Give thanks for every person who enters the church and pray that God will speak to our hearts.
• Tue 11 - Give thanks for friends of our church community. Bless them in all they do and give thanks for their prayers.
• Wed 12 - Pray for all nurseries within our parish, that the children may thrive and adults likewise.
• Thu 13 - Pray for people who are retired, but give of their expertise wherever they can.
• Fri 14 - Give thanks that the church is open during the week at various times. Give thanks for people being there to welcome those who pop in.
• Sat 15 The Blessed Virgin Mary - Almighty God, who looked upon the lowliness of the Blessed Virgin Mary and chose her to be the mother of your only Son: grant that we who are redeemed by his blood may share with her in the glory of your eternal kingdom.
• SUN 16 11th after Trinity - The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us. May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him. Ps.67.&7
• Mon 17 - Pray for all who live in TREDENHAM CLOSE and PEEL COURT. Pray for the congregation at the Methodist church.
• Tue 18 - Give thanks for Angharad guiding the children in our services.
• Wed 19 - Pray for all who are involved in leading our services and for Dianna preaching.
• Thu 20 - Pray for our onward journey as a church, school and community. May we follow God in all things.
• Fri 21 - Pray that we may be God's light in the world and peacemakers.
• Sat 22 - Pray for our service tomorrow, that all who take part may feel at home and welcomed.
• SUN 23 12th after Trinity - Almighty God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray: pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things, which we are not worthy to ask.
• Mon 24 Bartholomew, Apostle - Lord, you gave to your apostle Bartholomew grace truly to believe and to preach your word: grant that your Church may love that word which he believed and may faithfully preach and receive the same.
• Tue 25 - Pray for those who live in CROSS STREET and ALMA SQUARE. Also for all at the Baptist Church.
• Wed 26 - Pray for patience when it comes to answers to our prayers. All in God's good and right timing.
• Thu 27 - Pray for families as the summer holidays are coming to an end. For children who are starting school, that they may embrace new challenges.
• Fri 28 - Show us how to be lights in our communities. Listening to others and acting when needed.
• Sat 29 - Give thanks for our church building, which has stood here for going on for 150 years.
• SUN 30 13th after Trinity - Lord, you feed your children with the living bread from heaven: let this holy food sustain us through our earthly pilgrimage until we come to that place where hunger and thirst are no more.
• Mon 31 - Pray this week for all who live in BLENHEIM PARK. Also for the Plymouth Brethren.

First Reading – Jeremiah 15;

A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah, chapter 15, beginning at verse fifteen. Listen for the word of the Lord

You understand, O LORD; remember me and attend to me. Avenge me against my persecutors. In Your patience, do not take me away. Know that I endure reproach for Your honour.

Your words were found, and I ate them.
Your words became my joy and my heart’s delight.
For I bear Your name, O LORD God of Hosts.

I never sat with the band of revellers, nor did I celebrate with them. Because Your hand was on me, I sat alone, for You have filled me with indignation.

Why is my pain unending, and my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You have indeed become like a mirage to me—water that is not there. Therefore this is what the LORD says: “If you return, I will restore you; you will stand in My presence. And if you speak words that are noble instead of worthless, you will be My spokesman. It is they who must turn to you, but you must not turn to them. Then I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you, but will not overcome you, for I am with you to save and deliver you” declares the LORD. “I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless.”

Second Reading – Romans ; 9 - end

A reading from the Paul's letter to the Romans, beginning at verse twelve. Listen for the word of the Lord

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Gospel Reading

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.

Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.

From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”

But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”

First Reading – Isaiah 43, 8-12

A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 43, beginning at verse eight.

Bring forth the people who are blind yet have eyes, who are deaf yet have ears! Let all the nations gather together, and let the peoples assemble. Who among them declared this and foretold to us the former things? Let them bring their witnesses to justify them, and let them hear and say, “It is true.”

“You are my witnesses,” says the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no saviour. “I am the one who declared and saved and proclaimed, not some strange god among you; you are my witnesses”, says the LORD, “and I am God. Indeed, since that day I am he; there is no one who can deliver from my hand; I work, and who can hinder it?”

Second Reading – Acts 5; 12-15

A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah, chapter 43, beginning at verse eight.

Now many signs and wonders were done among the people through the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s Portico. None of the rest dared to join them, but the people held them in high esteem. Yet more than ever believers were added to the Lord, great numbers of both men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, in order that Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he came by. 

A great number of people would also gather from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all cured.

A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. But he said to them, “The kings of the gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you; rather, the greatest among you must become like the youngest and the leader like one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

“You are those who have stood by me in my trials, and I confer on you, just as my Father has conferred on me, a kingdom, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
