Thursday 8th November 2018 St. Mark's School 'Remembrance Walk' Throughout the day, the children from our Primary School will have opportunity to learn more of the history of the moment as they 'walk' around the many features of our Church that commemorate or are linked to the events of the First World War. Saturday 10th November 2018 REMEMBRANCE WEEKEND
10:00am - 4:00pm'Open Day' of ReflectionDuring the day, the Church will be open as we hope to create an 'air of quietness' in recognition of this significant 'centenary' weekend, marking 100 years since the end of the First World War. The names of the 194 personnel recorded on our [hopefully] newly-restored Chapel will be read aloud throughout the day, and the bell tolled to mark their memorial. Other activities will be organised to aid our thoughts at this time. Refreshments will be available
4:00pmRededication EvensongYou are welcome to join us for this special service of 'Book of Common Prayer' Evensong, during which we will re-dedicate the memorials in our First World War Chapel.
5:00pm - 9:00pmMemorial VigilOpen to all, the Church will be available throughout these hours for your own personal reflections, as we acknowledge the sense of remembrance at this time. "War" poetry (read aloud) will accompany the vigil, which will hopefully be symbolised by an 'honour guard' in the Chapel throughout. At 9.00pm, the Last Post will sound, and memorial poppies will descend throughout the Church. You may come and go at leisure, stopping for just a few minutes - or staying for the entire experience. Everyone is welcome.
